First Impressions: Ms. ‘Splosion Man

Twisted Pixel, well known for their previous Xbox LIVE titles such as The Maw, ‘Splosion Man, and Comic Jumper have put their newest piece of work into a public beta test running from June 6th to the 26th. And if you want to get into the beta to play both on and offline Twisted Pixel staff has been dropping codes like hot cakes over at @Twisted_Pixel on twitter.

Luckily for you, I got my hands on it a few days ago, along with my partner in ‘sploding Bryan to test out the multiplayer, however before I go on it’s worth noting that none of this work we’ve been shown in this beta test is final so don’t go drawing too many conclusions off of this small glimpse.

Now on to the game, it starts out in the labs where the scientists have caught ‘Splosion man in a bind finally capturing him, but spill some liquid on their computers and create Ms. ‘Splosion Man bent on revenge, and shoes. Gameplay is similar to ‘Splosion Man, but with added elements shown off such as the sliding rail, unlimited ‘splode fields, force fields, switches, and trampolines to add challenge to both the single and multiplayer game modes (making multiplayer much harder in my experience) and style to the rather simple premise.

Along with new platforming elements, is a homage to the newer Nintendo games featuring a hub world for the various lands you travel through, and a new buddy ‘splosion system where you can start a countdown by hitting the left trigger on your controller to jump ridiculously high over the ridiculous multiplayer jumps and gaps with up to four ‘splosion bent players racing to get the best times, and collecting the various collectible shoes and coins to spend in The Mall section of the game featuring concept art, models, etc for your viewing pleasure.

The four playable levels aren’t incredibly long for the beta, but it is a beta after all, so we can’t be expecting too much. However from what I’ve seen from the huge bosses, and the challenging multiplayer Ms. ‘Splosion Man will be eating up a good chunk of my time once it releases. Plus if you were one of the lucky testers be sure to contact twisted pixel to report and bugs or glitches to make the game a better experience for us all.
