Globe Clicker review

Ever heard of Kiribati? Neither have I, it is a small island in Pacific Ocean and you will soon be learning where you can find it and many other locations thanks to Globe Clicker. Globe Clicker is an educational game where you must find the correct locations around the globe, does it reach the destination or get terribly lost and end up in Timbuktu? Read on to find out.

Two game modes can be found on Globe Clicker, the Challenge mode is a round based game which you must reach a set score each round to progress to the next. Categories of locations are given each round including Big Cities, USA, World Heritage and all of the continents. You are given a location to find and must find it on the globe pinpointing it as close as possible. The more accurate you are the more score you gain, you also gain extra points depending on how fast you choose the location. Eight locations are given each round and depending on your geography skills can be easy or hard, for example if you live in Europe you may know locations better than say Asia.

There are two globes to play on, the Day globe is like a traditional map where you can see the greenery, oceans, mountains etc. while the Night globe puts the world in darkness with only lights in cities to use as a reference. Both globes have their advantages and disadvantages in finding your location, I liked the idea of the Night globe as it can sometimes make it easier to locate cities for example.

The Custom game allows you choose from one of the nine categories that are found in the Challenge mode, you can also choose from the Day or Night globe. As with the challenge mode, you target the locations on the globe and gain score for how close your guess is. This mode is ideal for practice in a weaker geographical area as all the locations will be found there to help improve your knowledge.

Presentation is a little basic but works fine, menus are laid out clearly and everything is easy to navigate. The in game graphics such as the globe is drawn well and has quite a bit of detail when you zoom in, it rotates smoothly and there are no problems. Music is non existent and sound effects are at a bare minimum with just a clicking noise and a ‘ta-da’ sound if you choose a location within a close distance. Highscores are available for the challenge and individual categories which is useful as you can use it to judge if you are improving or not. I would have liked to have seen some kind of multiplayer mode worked in to the game just to give it more of a challenge with some friends and some replayability.

If you have an interest in geography or just want to broaden your knowledge of locations in the world this is a great game to play. I like playing quiz games, my general geographic knowledge is not too bad and this game will help improve it. One day I will play a quiz and be asked where Kiribati is and I will know the answer thanks to this game! 🙂 While this is not a game you can sit down playing for hours continuously, you can come back to now and again to learn something new. Globe Clicker costs 240 :MSPoints: and gets a thumbs up from me.

More information on Globe Clicker as well as the trial and full version of the game can be found on the Marketplace.
