Indie Games round up 9th March

Welcome to the latest Indie Game round up of releases and updates. Some nice releases in this round up, in particular Zombie Armageddon which surprised me a lot. Also I should have some news on the domain name in the next day or two, just waiting for the name servers to update.

Ask Angela! is a fortune telling application. You ask a question and Angela will give a vague answer. Avoid this one like the plague and do not cross her palms with 80 :MSPoints:. You can find more information on (Don’t) Ask Angela! on the Marketplace.

Colony Defense is the first of today’s Tower Defence style games. Colony Defense is played on a rotatable 3D planet and comes packed with a nice variety of towers which can be purchased and upgraded. I did find the game a little harder to play but with some more time spent I think this should be a decent game, worth checking out. Colony Defense costs 400 :MSPoints: and more information can be found on the Marketplace, a trailer can be found below.

Convextrix is a block drop style puzzle game where you must make a group of coloured blocks to remove them from the game. Gameplay seems solid enough but the music was just plain annoying, I forgot to check if there was a mute option. Worth checking out if you like Tetris style puzzle games. Convextrix costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

Experiment 13 is a minimal platform game, think of N+. You will either love or hate this kind of platform game where accuracy, timing and perfection is required to overcome the obstacles and make it to the exit, personally I love these kinds of games. Graphics are nothing to write home about but there is plenty of gameplay and well worth checking out. Experiment 13 costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

GoonyCru Day One is a physics based game where you play the part of a store trainee armed with grenades. You must use the grenades to move your character or set of chain reactions. I could not get to grips with this game and lost patience with it. Give it a try as you may have better luck, the trailer looked quite interesting. GoonyCru Day One costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

Jewelry Master Twinkle Light is a block drop puzzle game, jewels are mixed with the blocks and you must make lines by joining the jewels and blocks to remove them from the game. Graphics are bright and colourful and the game plays well enough, seems a decent game for 80 :MSPoints: so one to check out. More information on Jewelry Master Twinkle Light can be found on the Marketplace.

MagicalCube is an action puzzle game where you must defeat monsters via a sliding puzzle game where you make rows or columns of three or more matching coloured blocks. Spells can be collected as well as coins to upgrade the player. Graphics look great and the action is fast paced, a XBLA quality game that I enjoyed a lot! MagicalCube costs 400 :MSPoints: and is well worth checking out, more information can be found on the Marketplace and a trailer can be found below.

Spot The Difference is based on the pub arcade game where two pictures are shown and you must spot the differences in them. The pictures look OK from what I could see and the game is presented well. Spot The Difference does cost 400 :MSPoints: which just like pub arcade games is a bit too expensive for what it is. More information can be found on the Marketplace here.

Toad Man’s Bizarre Quest is the latest release from Silver Dollar Games. You play the character of a Frog who must drop bombs onto swimming Mermaids to blow them up and collect junk for a princess. Once your bag of junk is full the princess will inspect the junk and give feedback with often hilarious results. I am not quite sure if I would pay 80 :MSPoints: for the game but do check out the trial to see the poor frog humiliated after each round, I almost felt sorry for him 🙂 More information on Toad Man’s Bizarre Quest can be found on the Marketplace.

Zombie Armageddon is a Tower Defence style game with some nice touches. A city is being overrun by Zombies and you must build defences to stop them. So far so Tower Defence, but the extra touch is you must also rescue civilians and upgrade towers with a Jeep. The Jeep must also be defended against the Zombies otherwise it will blow up, so sending it out at the correct time is essential. Also worth noting are the cut scenes which are done quite well with voice overs. Don’t let the graphics put you off as this game looks to be really well made, it does feels cinematic in a strange way. Zombie Armageddon costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

I missed the release of Puzzle Drop – Mountain Set so I will include it in the next Indie Game round up.

Titles that have received a software update or price change are You Will Die, Rebound, Metronome HD, Your Doodles Are Bugged!, MotorHEAT, Scare Me, Avatar Avenue and Pellmell.
