Indie Games round up April 2nd

Ten new releases since Tuesday for this Easter round up of Indie Games. My pick of the bunch are Concentrix, Mechanoid Army, The Shadows in the Underworld and Wayne the Brain but as always do check them all out. If any indie developers would like us to review your game in full, please get in contact with us for more details.

Avatar HunterAvatar Hunter is a tile match game featuring avatars. You flip over tiles to uncover an avatar and try to make a matching pair. The game plays fairly well with combo bonus score for sequential matchings. There are some themes to choose from and some funny speech during the game when you fail or make a pair. Avatar Hunter costs 80 :MSPoints: and is not too bad, should keep the kids quiet over the Easter break. More information can be found here and a trailer below.

ConcentrixConcentrix is a puzzle game where you must place falling rings to the outer rim to make three or more matching colours. The idea takes a little getting used to but once you do it is quite a clever game as each ring has different colours so you must keep an eye on the entire ring to ensure you do not block a potential match. There are a few different game modes to play and at 240 :MSPoints: it is one to check out. More information can be found here and a trailer below.

LewjmeleLewjmele is a vertical scrolling shooter. Graphics are 3D with a 2D backdrop which works fairly well. Gameplay is good but the levels feel short with mid level and end of level bosses fairly close together. There are also occasional lag/jumps while playing which can be off putting when you are trying to dodge bullets. If you can live with the issues it is not a bad shooter, but at 400 :MSPoints: it is quite expensive compared to other shooters. More information can be found here.

Mechanoid ArmyMechanoid Army is a platform based game with some puzzle elements. You control a robot who must work his way through the level to reach the exit. Along the way are enemy robots which you must destroy by jumping on their head, other robots require more puzzle like solutions to destroy. Graphics look great and the gameplay works well, the jumping is a little floaty at first but you get used to it. Mechanoid Army costs 240 :MSPoints: and is well worth checking out. More information can be found here and a trailer below.

QoccerQoccer is a Subbuteo style football/soccer style game. Two teams of three cube like players take turns to move around the pitch attacking and defending and trying to get that all important goal. Presentation and graphics work well and the game play is quite fun against the CPU, if a little tricky to beat. This should be a great two player game so if you are bored of FIFA 10 and fancy something a bit different this is well worth checking out as it only costs 80 :MSPoints:. More information can be found here and a trailer below.

Tech ShooterTECH SHOOTER is a Space Invaders style shooter where enemy craft scroll across the screen and you must destroy them. The game looks fancy and gameplay is fast paced, but I felt there was no real sense of progression. You do level up but you get no extra weapons etc and the enemy spawns remain much the same, so it was the same thing over and over. Not too sure about this game, worth checking out as it only costs 80 :MSPoints: but I think you may be bored by the end of the trial. More information can be found here.

The Shadows in the UnderworldThe Shadows in the Underworld is a part shooter part adventure game. You control a submarine that is tasked to explore an underwater lost city. Items which are required to progress in the game are hidden and can only be located by shining your search light on them. Enemies pop up at regular intervals and must be dispatched by your missiles or making a quick getaway. Graphically the game is good and the game plays really well with a good mix of exploration and shooter elements. The Shadows in the Underworld costs just 80 :MSPoints: and is well worth checking out. More information can be found here and a trailer below.

TrickshotTrickShot is a Linerider inspired game with also requires you to shoot the targets as you ski your way through the level. The menus are a little confusing, but once you get playing the game it is quite fun and it is a good challenge to avoid obstacles, perform stunts and shoot targets. If you are a fan of Linerider style games you should check this one out. TrickShot costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here and a trailer below.

Truth or TreasonTruth or Treason is a two player only game so I was unfortunately unable to try this game. According to the description, the game is a twist on the Rock, Scissors, Paper game but instead played with a Knight, Wizard, or Rogue. Apparently this was created in 48 hours and all proceeds are going to the Child’s Play Charity so you may want to  buy as a way of a donation to the cause. Truth or Treason costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Wayne the brainWayne the Brain is a physics based puzzle game. You control a crane and must pick up and drop objects onto stains to cover them up. Objects are stackable, but thanks to the physics, bumping or unbalanced objects can create a chain reaction leaving a messy pile on the floor. This is a nice simple game that works well and puzzle fans should definitely check this one out. Wayne the Brain costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here and a trailer below.

Titles that  have received a software update or price change are Astro Taxi, PARTYBOAT, Missing Reel, DESTRUCTION TANK and yOm_fury.
