Indie Games Round Up 14th May

Nine new releases for you to check out in this latest round up of Indie Games on the Xbox 360. Don’t forget to rate all the games you try, you can do this on the Marketplace game information page or on the Xbox 360 game information menu.

Avatar HangmanAvatar Hangman is as the name suggests a Hangman game, or is it? Well not quite, probably due to the rules of using Avatars in games where you are not allowed to show them being hurt, so instead of dangling from a rope the Avatar will faint. Presentation is a bit basic but there are over 100 phrases in 5 categories to play on so you get a decent amount for your 80 :MSPoints:. Support for USB keyboard and the Chat Pad is included. More information can be found on the Marketplace here.

Brainbox360 (Physics Edition)BrainBox360 (Physics Edition) is a quiz game for up to four players locally. The questions are multiple choice with the theme being Physics based, useful if you want to brush up on your physics knowledge or want to learn something new. The questions are quite tricky if you do not know beyond basic physics so be warned. BrainBox360 (Physics Edition) costs 400 :MSPoints: so it is quite expensive but worth checking out if you have an interest in a physics quiz. More information can be found on the Marketplace here.

Burning Fist of RageBurning Fist of Rage is a side scrolling beatemup for up to two players co-op. If you are a fan of games such as Beats of Rage of which this is clearly inspired from then this is well worth checking out. Presentation and graphics are done very well and this could pass as an XBLA game in production value. The action is good, the controls work fine and I liked the first boss, very ED209 like 🙂 Burning Fist of Rage costs 240 :MSPoints: and is a must try! More information can be found on the Marketplace here and a trailer below.

FabariteFabarite is a puzzle game where pairs of coloured lines fall and you must create matching lines to remove them from the game. There are a few releases similar to this game already but Fabarite looks to be the better of them. The issue is this game costs 400 :MSPoints: so I don’t think too many will be buying at this price. More information can be found on the Marketplace here.

FlatlandFlatland is a part puzzle part platform game where you must get your character to the exit to complete the level. The screen can be rotated 90 degrees to get to hard to reach platforms which is an interesting idea. The level designs are quite clever and they got me thinking in different ways which was good to see. The graphics are a little basic but if you can live with them this game is worth checking out. Flatland costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

MurphidMurphid is a match three style puzzle game. Pairs of coloured blocks fall and the aim is to match them with two other coloured blocks to remove them from the game. Presentation and graphics are done very well but strangely there is no music. There are over 70 levels in the challenge mode so there is plenty to keep you occupied. Murphid costs 240 :MSPoints: and is well worth checking out, decent game! More information on Murphid can be found on the Marketplace and a trailer below.

Rapunzels Fight KnightRapunzels Fight Knight is an up to four player Human or CPU arcade game in which your Knight must climb to the top of the tower to rescue Rapunzel. The game is very fun to play but I did have some issues with collision detection with obstacles where the characters would get stuck, including the CPU players blocking the pathway. Give the game a try as it is fun and I think with a few friends this would be a much better game. Rapunzels Fight Knight costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here and a trailer below.

RetentRetent is a memory game where a sequence of numbers are briefly displayed on the screen and you must enter the number correctly. This is a very simple game and is a struggle to recommend even at 80 :MSPoints:. A couple of modes such as a two player versus mode to see who can remember and enter the numbers the fastest would have gave it some more value. More information can be found on the Marketplace here.

Team ChessTeam Chess is a chess game for up to four players locally or online. Unfortunately a single player mode is not in the game so I was unable to play it. I guess if you like chess games this is worth checking out, if you do please let us know if it is any good or not. More information can be found on the Marketplace and a trailer below.

Titles that have received a software update or price change are Aardvark, Avatar Bumper Cars and Graffiti LIVE!.
