Uprising Review

You play the part of a Computer AI virus who just wants to be free. Should you start the uprising? Read on to find out.

Uprising is a twin stick shooter set in a virus testing sandbox, you are a test AI virus that initially starts off underpowered and is put through a training procedure to see how it performs. Without giving too much of the story away, your character performs better than expected and decides to break out if it training grounds and onto the internet.

As you battle your way through the 15 levels, a story is told by your viruses writer which is fairly well written and adds to the flow of the game. Throughout your journey you will encounter virtual enemies such as helicopters and other viruses who are trying to stop you, they have differing health and may require multiple shots from your weapons. The game uses a physics system for enemies and objects in the environment, you can use these to your advantage as cover or to cause choke points for the best destruction.

You gain a number of weapons as you progress, but you are limited to one set weapon per level with no opportunity to collect a different one. Weapons include a standard assault rifle, sniper gun and homing rocket launcher. The rocket launcher is the most used weapon and while it is fun to use, it does make the game quite easy as you simply run around in large circles and fire in the general direction of the enemies. Support for three other players in co-op is available if you have some spare friends.

Presentation is minimal but otherwise works fine, there is just the one game mode so no complex menus. Graphically the game fares well, visuals are bright and colourful, enemies and explosions look the part. Music and sound effects are done fairly well, nothing ground breaking but it does the job.

You may be wondering that this is a short review, it is not because I am lazy (well… not when writing reviews!) but there is nothing much to talk about. I completed the 15 levels in my first play through in around 20 minutes and had to double check if I missed something such as a new game mode had been unlocked. Unfortunately that was my lot and I found it quite surprising that nothing else was available such as a survival mode or something to add some more replayability.

Uprising costs 80 :MSPoints: which even at this price is hard to justify when compared with other games in this price range. While the game is fairly fun, it is easy and over all too soon, I would cancel the uprising and stay at home instead.
