Quizocalypse Review

The Rainbow Corporation has a new gameshow with the new target audience of Zombies. Lovely brains are up for grabs, read on for how you can win yours!

Quizocalypse is a quiz game for up to four players locally, either as a single player mode or a party mode. You can choose between four zombie characters with names such as Zealous Zoe and Billy the Brain, each come with their own animations and speech style. The game takes on a gameshow format with thirteen random questions per quiz in which you must choose from four possible answers. A timer represented by your possible score decreases the longer you take to answer. Answering fast and correctly will reward your zombie with more score and eventually more delicious brains to eat.

The questions are more biased towards the geeky side, there will not be any questions such as what is the capital city of England or who is featured on a $10 bill. Instead you will be asked questions on games, internet culture, cult films and tv shows. Examples of questions include viral videos such as the what caused the panda to be shocked by its baby panda and what does ‘kk’ stand for in internet slang. It makes a nice change from the usual general knowledge quizzes, but it may limit the range of players who will understand the questions, I would imagine playing this game with my mother for example, would result in a VERY easy win!

Presentation is done well with nicely presented menus which are easy to navigate, the party games are easy to set up and everything is clearly presented. Graphically the game looks good, cartoon style graphics are used throughout. There are some animation sequences for the characters, but I would have liked to have seen more such as when they win or lose. A rock music track is present in the menus which sounds very good, during the game the near silence is broken up with gameshow style sounds and the often mutterings of ‘brains’ by the zombies.

Overall the game is solid and there are no major complaints, everything works as it should. One thing I would like to see would be an option to set the number of questions, as thirteen may be too low or high for some. A small extra is a Coffee making machine which does not serve any real purpose but it is quite funny. There are also some hidden secrets which you can find by visiting the developers Facebook page 😉

Quizocalypse costs 240 :MSPoints: which is a fair price if you have a few knowledgeable friends to play against. This style of quiz game was not really made for single player so it would be unfair to judge it on that. The game is fairly fun playing in single player, but the real fun comes with playing with some friends. This is one to check out if you want a quiz game with geeky style questions!
