This Way That Way Review

This Way That Way is a puzzle game with an overall original game play idea with some inspired puzzle elements. Come this way and read more about the game.

This Way That Way is a top down view puzzle game in which you must move your character from the start block to the exit block. You character is can move in any direction but this is where the main puzzle twist comes in to effect. Once you move in one direction, you are no longer able to move in that direction after you change direction, this limit remains until you complete the full cycle of directions. For example if you move right, then upwards, you cant move right again until you also move left and down. This leads to an ingenious puzzle design where even the simplest looking level can often leave you stumped.

The game comes with over 100 levels split into four Classes; D to A. Each class has a group of levels which are initially locked, a number of levels must be completed to progress. You can skip levels but skipping too many may will lead to a dead end, you will eventually need to return to the skipped levels to unlock more.

As you progress through the game, new obstacles are introduced. Enemies move on set pathways and patience and planning is required to bypass them. Blocks can be pushed around the screen, holes will also feature which if fell into will result in death. You can push blocks into holes which fill them in and allow for safe passage over them. Lasers, ice and degrading spaces are later introduced and bring on different approaches to reaching the exit. A very informative series of tutorials are available to read from the main menu and when a new obstacle is introduced it will show the respective tutorial for it.

This Way That Way is perhaps one of the most challenging puzzle games I have played in a while. It will test your memory skills as you will always need to remember correct pathways and when to change direction to reset the cycle in advance. This is not a game for the impatient, levels can and will take many attempts to even reach the exit, let alone beat the recommended number of moves! Your best number of moves are recorded for each level and you can go back and try to improve on them at any time.

Graphically the game does look a little basic which may put some people off. While the graphics are plain, they work well for the puzzle genre with easy identifiable blocks which I think is more important. A chilled out music track loops throughout the game, it works well as a background tune and doesn’t get repetitive.

This Way That Way costs 80 :MSPoints: which is good value for money. I would not like to guess how long the 100+ levels will take to complete but if you can complete them all you will definitely get your 80 :MSPoints: worth. If you enjoy very challenging puzzle games then this is a must buy. For more casual puzzle players you should try the trial version and see what you think.
