360 Mega Pack HD Remix Review

360 Mega Pack HD Remix is a sequel to last years compilation of games and apps. Is the remix worth checking out? Read on to find out.

The older generation of gamers like myself may remember compilation tapes for the Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64 and Spectrum. You would get fifty games on the tape, a couple of those would actually be worth the time it took to load the game. 360 Mega Pack HD Remix is very much the same with a mix of eleven games and apps, so we will sort out the good from the bad and concentrate on the former.

Gravity Dash is a side scrolling arcade game which requires skill and memory. Your block automatically scrolls along the level and you must jump at the right time to bypass white or red blocks, white blocks are safe while red blocks will instantly kill you. You should all be familiar with this style of game as there are quite a few in various guises on XBLIG. Gravity Dash includes an extra element in that you can flip the gravity so your block now scrolls along the top of the screen instead of the bottom. It is a great twist and adds a very welcome dimension to the genre. There are 25 levels to complete will take a while to get through. Possibly the biggest draw is the easy to use level creator which allows you to design, save and play your own levels, it is limited only by your imagination.

Twin Stick is a retro themed twin stick shooter. Waves of enemies appear on screen and you must destroy them all to continue. Power ups spawn each level and can include upgrading your rate of fire and the number of bullets you can fire. The game starts of fairly easily and increases in difficulty each wave. The graphics are a quite basic block style but it kind of works and is fairly fun to play giving a few minutes of distraction at a time.

The rest of the content is mostly filler consisting of games and apps, some from the original and some brand new. ‘Rumble’ is a massage app and ‘ Fortune Cookie’ presents some advice. ‘Super Button Mashing’ is a simple game where you must press the A button a number of times within the time limit which increases in difficulty each level. ‘ Flashlight’ is a simple app that lets you set the screen colour either statically or flashing in a few styles. ‘Arrow Panic’ is a two player only strategy game which I was unable to try as I did not have another controller at the time. ‘Clock’ displays either a digital or analogue clock and ‘Calculator’ is a basic calculator. ‘Memory’ is a Simon style game where you must repeat the order of the flashing colours and ‘Ping’ is a Pong clone which can be played a single player or two player. Overall these games and apps are probably worth playing once or twice just to check them out.

Presentation is done very well, the menu design is a scrolling menu showing Atari 2600 style cartridges for the games which looks really nice. Graphically the games are average, Gravity Dash looks the best out the lot with clean cut graphics but the remaining games are bad to average at best. There are ten music tracks to listen to which range from dance and trance to classical and jazz. They are all good quality tracks and there should be something to suit everyones tastes.

360 Mega Pack HD Remix costs 80 :MSPoints: which is a fair price considering the amount of content you get. Out of the eleven games and apps, only two are really worthwhile though. I would say that Gravity Wars along with its level creator could be worth the 80 :MSPoints: alone if you are a fan of this genre, otherwise you would be better suited to playing the trial version.
