Indie Games Winter Uprising: Epic Dungeon, Hypership Out of Control and Break Limit

The week long Xbox Indie Games Winter Uprising started yesterday and we are here to cover all the releases each day.

The Indie Games Winter Uprising is a development community organised event to promote the better games that are being released over the next week. Many titles are from established developers such as Radiangames and Ska Studios and are available from just 80 :MSPoints: to 400 :MSPoints:. You can find out more about the event at http://www.indiegames-uprising.com/.

Our daily round up of the releases will include a paragraph or two for each release which is based on the trial version of the game. We hope to bring full reviews of the games at a later date. So on to the trial impressions!

Epic Dungeon

Epic Dungeon is a real time dungeon crawler. It follows the traditional RPG theme with a number of classes to base your character on with varying abilities such as better attacking for warriors or magic for spellcasters.  As the game is played in real time instead of the usual turn based method it gives the game a more arcade feel so if you have not been a fan of dungeon crawlers you may be interested in this. Your aim is to work your way down the levels of the dungeons and kill anything along the way, collect items such as new weapons, armour, potions and of course gold. Enemies do respawn if you return to a previously explored area which I found a little annoying as they can sometimes bunch up and prove to be a little trouble to kill. But this is a trial impression based on eight minutes of gameplay so I am sure you will be better quipped to deal with it in further levels. The graphics are a retro inspired style which works well and gives it the a more modern look while keeping it classic at the same time.

Costing only 80 :MSPoints: this looks to be a great value game which should keep you occupied for many hours. More information of Epic Dungeon can be found on the homepage, and you can download the trial version or purchase the full game on the Xbox Marketplace. A trailer can be viewed below.

Hypership Out of Control

We reviewed Hypership out of Control a few months ago which you can read here. The update to the game brings a few changes including gifting lives and reviving other players, graphical improvements and an option to reverse the waves effectively doubling the number of levels. We loved the game for its pick up play aspect and the game modes add good replayability. You can read more about the game at http://www.funinfused.com/ and you can download the trial version or purchase the full game on the Xbox Marketplace for 80 :MSPoints:. Break Limit

Break Limit is no too dissimilar to Hypership Out of Control. It is a vertical scrolling shooter style game but instead of dodging objects as in Hypership Out of Control you can shoot them or use your Break Limit to smash through them. Weapons are upgraded as you progress through the level, I got to try a cool laser beam type weapon which made destroying the oncoming objects much easier. Your Break Limit comes in very handy and when fully charged it allows you to smash through objects without taking damage. The graphics and presentation are more slick (and modern looking) than Hypership Out of Control so if you prefer a modern arcade look rather than retro this should be ideal.

Given the choice of Break Limit and Hypership Out of Control, I would choose both 🙂 Though they are similar in idea they do play differently and have enough variation between them.

More information of Break Limit can be found on the homepage, and you can download the trial version or purchase the full game on the Xbox Marketplace. A trailer can be viewed below.
