Zombiez 8 My Cookiez Review

What defines a zombie game? Brains? Shotguns? The Apocalypse? Well throw all your preconceptions out the window! ‘Zombiez 8 My Cookiez’ developed by Triple B Games takes a new, and very original approach to the already crowded zombie genre by tasking players with fighting off hordes of zombies craving for, you guessed it, cookies!

The game is set upon a table, with a plate of cookies in the middle (including a choc-chip, Digestive and Jammie Dodger for those concerned). You play as a little matchbox-sized tank armed with a machine gun and rocket launcher. Your job is simple, to protect the cookies… or so it seems. Soon you will find waves of zombies climbing from all sides of the table, and before too long, you will be overrun.

As basic as this game is, it can be quite fun! At its core, it is another twin-stick shooter. But this isn’t a survival game in the same sense. Instead of being concerned with your own health, you have to look out for the cookies that the zombies are endlessly trying to steal. This makes the game increasingly challenging since you are not just caring for yourself. As well as this, the cookies will be stolen by zombies from all ends of the table, and racing around trying to protect them all becomes extremely difficult. In fact, I found the game a bit too difficult, especially since the zombies take more than one hit to kill. When there are literally hundreds on the table, with the weapons in your arsenal, it becomes an impossible task. Even when playing with friends, the task is just too difficult. Maybe if there were tank and weapon upgrade opportunities gamers would stand more of a chance, however in its current form, players just will not get what they should out of the game.

The game features friend and online leaderboards, though from my personal experience, I was nowhere near hitting the top scores! It also has an American football mini-game, though unfortunately it is only multiplayer, which makes it fairly pointless to many players since there is no online play. The graphics look good, though a lack of variety in zombies and environment really lets the game down, and soon it all becomes a bit same-old. It’s a similar story with the sound, and it doesn’t take long for the effects to become a bit annoying.

‘Zombiez 8 My Cookiez’ is no more than an average Indie game at heart. Unless they are really skilled, I doubt the average gamer will play it more than once or twice. With just two levels, and a pretty much unusable mini-game, 400 :MSPoints: is a bit too much to pay for a title that will have a short lifespan for most gamers.

You can find more information on the game as well as the trial and full versions on the Xbox Marketplace.
