Xbox Indie Game Round Up – Episode 131

This weeks Xbox Indie Game Round Up includes Sideral Defense, The Fall of Gods, Puzzled Rabbit and Tunnelvision.

A couple of days late round up this week as I was covering the Eurogamer Expo and I have been trying to shake off a cold for the past week. This round up covers the releases from the 18th to 26th. The next article on Sunday will cover from today until Saturday.

Below is our compilation video showing gameplay from the weeks releases. Please take a look and don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/TheGamergeddon.

Up next are this weeks releases sorted in a rough order on how good they are over three categories. Trial impressions have been wrote for the Geddon it! category games and they are a must try and/or buy. Armehgeddon is a category that has some games that are worth considering at least playing the trial to see if you like them, they are by no means bad. The final category, Armageddon outta here!, contains games that are probably not worth the time unless something sounds interesting to you. Both the Armehgeddon and Armageddon outta here! use the developers game descriptions.

Geddon It!

Sideral Defense – 240 :MSPoints: – MarketplaceTrailer

[singlepic id=8015 w=320 h=240 float=center]

Sideral Defense is a Tower Defense style strategy game. You must defend your home planet from space pirates by placing turrets on the surrounding asteroids which act as pathways leading from the pirates spawns to your planet. You can also place harvesters on the asteroids which give you income to spend on better defenses. The whole Tower Defense genre has been done to death but the multiple pathways used in the game, while not original, adds a welcome twist. The game does cost 240 :MSPoints: but it looks to be worth the point, definitely one to check out before deciding to buy at least.

The Fall of Gods – 240 :MSPoints: – MarketplaceTrailer

[singlepic id=8019 w=320 h=240 float=center]

The Fall of Gods – Chapter 1 is an action RPG which is supposedly ten hours in length. It follows the classic top down view used in older RPGs which I prefer to the modern styles. It is hard to get a good sense of how good a RPG is within the trial limit but from what I played it looks to be decent. Despite the classic looks, combat is handled in real time on the game map instead of being whisked off to a turn based battle so it turns out to be a nice mix of styles. My only annoyance is the long loading times when returning to the main map after exploring a cave for example. Give the game a try, it is possible to save the game and reload after the trial has expired but there is a one hour limit so you can get a good feel for the game before deciding to buy or not.

Armehgeddon

This category has games that are well worth trying if the developers descriptions interest you. The games are by no means bad, but may lack the quality, design, price or something else that keeps it out the top category.

Puzzled RabbitPuzzled Rabbit – 80 :MSPoints: – MarketplaceTrailer

Puzzled Rabbit is a charming little game for anyone who enjoys solving puzzles. The game is based on a classic concept of sokoban and features almost 200 challenging levels. Try it and you won’t regret!

TunnelvisionTunnelvision – 240 :MSPoints: – MarketplaceTrailer

Tunnel Vision is a fast paced shooter. Tunnel Vision translates traditional 2D shooter mechanics into 3D. Traditional 2D shooters are about finding gaps in areas of relatively slowly moving bullets. Most modern 3D shooters mostly work on the mechanics of aiming and taking cover. Tunnel Vision takes the idea of complex firing patterns and slowly moving bullets into the third dimension.

Avatar Fighter OnlineAvatar Fighter Online – 80 :MSPoints: – Marketplace

A fighting game with avatars… now with online multiplayer! Fight to become champion of the Avatar Fighter tournament! Choose out of eight characters, or use your own avatar as a custom fighter with a customizable move set!

Pigs Cant FlyPigs Can’t Fly – 80 :MSPoints: – Marketplace

Pigs can’t fly – except in their dreams! Wallowing in mud is great and all, but sometimes you just want to soar under the stars. Feel the wind on your wings…well, strapped on wings anyway, and just let out a loud SQUEEEEEE as you zoom across the hills below, racing against the moon’s descent.

Armageddon outta here!

This category is for games that you may want to avoid on the reasons such as low quality, bugs, bad design, high price or playability. Some games are still playable but the overall opinion is they are probably not worth buying. Developers game descriptions are used.

Devil BloodDevil Blood – 80 :MSPoints: – Marketplace

Don’t get scared and chase them with huge slaps! Don’t Feed the Troll is a fast-paced reflex game played in 1-minute levels. Compare your scores with your friends and the best players with the online leaderboards.

Project windstorm is an arcade-like style paratrooper game which takes place in the sky amongst clouds, planes, and other hazards which must be approached differently.
