A World of Keflings: Sugar, Spice and Not So Nice DLC review

Boxart

Sugar, Spice and Not So Nice is the second DLC for Ninja Bees’ A World of Keflings set in a Candy world. We spent some time scoffing our faces on it today and here is our review.

The DLC is set in a brand new world made of candy with several new characters, items to farm and buildings to create. If you are not familiar with the Keflings series it is quite simple. You are given a task to create a building for example, buildings cost resources to manufacture and these are farmed from the land. To help this process are the native Keflings, who you can put to work – to farm and transport materials to and from various buildings in order to create a production line. You can read more about it on our review of the main game here.

Sugar, Spice and Not So Nice is essentially a reskin of the core game with a candy theme. Resources such as caramel lakes, cotton candy trees and wild animal crackers replace stone mines, wood trees and sheep. Buildings also take on the theme with gingerbread houses, frosting foundries and pastry pasteurisers. It is all very sweet, come on who doesn’t like Gummi Bears?

After a short playable introduction to the game you find out who the new evil character is. You are partly responsible for the mess and are asked to help resolve it by the new characters in the candy world. Without giving the story away, there are a dozen challenges that use most of the features of the game, the only one absent is that there is no integration with the main game world. Challenges include building newly learned buildings from blueprints, collecting resources, kicking naughty Keflings and a few object finding tasks, everything that made the main game fun and enjoyable to play.

Keflings veterans will find their stay in the candy world a little short-lived. If you are handy with resource management you can breeze through the game in around 90 minutes. If you are a little rusty, add on an extra 30 to 60 minutes. For the price of a few Mars Bars (320 :MSPoints:) the DLC is yours – short but sweet.

The DLC is available to buy from today, don’t forget you can purchase the A World of Keflings game for only 400 :MSPoints: as this weeks Xbox DOTW, bargain!
