Steam Announcements – Part 1 – SteamOS

Last week Steam gave the world a heads-up that they would be making three announcements that would change the world of Steam gaming. What do they have in store? Read on to find out!

Introducing SteamOS – a brand new operating system from Steam which combines the solid architecture of Linux with  a gaming experience built specifically for the big screen. Last year, Steam introduced BIG PICTURE MODE through the Steam software on PC, and now they’re working on expanding and simplifying the experience to play your Steam games in your living rooom. SteamOS will soon become available to run on Steam’s own line of hardware that will hook up directly to your TV!

SteamOS will be available to deliver a huge library of top-quality games and user-generated content directly to your living room. Connect your Steam machine running SteamOS to your TV, turn on your PC and launch Steam on there, and you’ll able to stream all your Steam games over your home network, and you’ll be able to stream music, TV, and movies as well. With the new Family Sharing option on Steam, you’ll also be able to play games from friends and family sharing through SteamOS and save your progress directly to the Steam cloud.
