Steam Announcements – Part 2 – The Machines Are Rising

Yes, the machines are rising. But this is so much cooler than Terminator could ever hope to be. Steam Machines are coming to retailers in 2014 for various manufacturers, but Valve already has their own powerful prototype.

SteamMachine

Choice. I’m a gamer, and you likely are too if you’re reading this. Don’t you love having a choice when you have decisions to make? I know I sure as hell do. That’s why there won’t be just one Steam machine available. SteamOS will be given to hardware manufacturers so they can design a variety of boxes that will likely vary in price, size, performance, and more. Users will be able to upgrade and swap parts in their Steam machines if they’re like do. SteamOS will be available to download and install on their own boxes, and even the source code will be available. It’s pretty much Linux, but built for gaming.

There’s a pretty decent Q&A located here so head on over there to learn more for now, and you’ll also be able to see the requirements to get in on the beta, which could award you with Valve’s very own Steam machine prototype THIS YEAR!
