Indie Games round up 23rd March

Nine new games to download and play in this round up of indie games releases for the Xbox 360. My pick of the bunch are Avatar Cannon, Falling and Stick Em Up. Regular readers may have noticed the image layout has changed, trying something new so please let us know in the comments if you prefer the old or new layout. Finally, if any indie developers would like us to review your game in full, please get in contact with us for more details.

Avatar Bumper CarsAvatar Bumper Cars is a one to four player human or CPU bumper car deathmatch game. Bump the rear of your opponents car to reduce their health bar and the survivor is the winner. Five locations to do battle in are available and there is a choice of CPU difficulty. The single player mode was average but I could see there being some fun with a few friends. Avatar Bumper Cars costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Avatar CannonAvatar Cannon is a cannon shooting game where you must launch your avatar as far as possible. It has been done a million times so I was not expecting much, but actually this game is pretty good. Safari themed animals are present which if landed on give you some extra distance and other obstacles such as elephant dung will halt your progress if hit. A fun version of the cannon flying genre, and keep an eye out for the Hole In One award, had me in stitches when I unlocked it by accident 🙂 Avatar Cannon costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

FallingFalling is a retro style arcade puzzle game in which you play as a penguin called Peppy. Peppy must destroy the falling blocks by kicking or throwing them into blocks of the same colour. The game feels very much like you are playing an old arcade game on a emulator, so bonus points for making it feel very authentic! The game itself is quite good, I played through a couple of levels and the puzzles were fun to attempt. Well worth checking out! Falling costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

Missile EscapeMissile Escape is an arcade game where you control an airplane and must dodge the missiles which chase you around the screen against a timer. If you beat the timer without being destroyed you go to the next level with an additional missile hunting you down. This is quite a tricky game but is fairly fun in short bursts, a nice pick up and play game! Missile Escape costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

Spiders! Why Spiders?Spiders! Why Spiders? is a top down twin stick survival shooter. Spiders are invading and you must put a stop to it by destroying them. I could not really get a feel for the game as the trial only let me play the first level. Extra ammo and health randomly spawn and at the end of the level is a boss type spider. The trial is very short so cant say either way if it is any good or not. Spiders! Why Spiders? costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Star ChartStar Chart is an education program that allows you to view the stars. Once you have set your location you can view the stars from your position which is handy as I never know what I am looking at. This wont be everyone’s cup of tea but if you have an interest in stars then it is worth checking out. Star Chart costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

Stick Em UpStick Em Up is a 2D action platform shooting game for up to four players. Despite the basic looking graphics, the game plays really well and I was pleasantly surprised after the tutorial level. There are plenty of enemies to shoot, vehicles to fly and other little touches like the physics which make this a fun game. Well worth checking out! Stick Em Up costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here, a trailer can be found below.

The Impossible Avatar GetawayThe Impossible Avatar Getaway is a freerunning game where you must press the buttons at the right time to jump, slide and bash your way past obstacles. I am a bit of a fan of these games especially when they are challenging, but I found The Impossible Avatar Getaway to be a little too challenging. Not sure if it was the camera view was too close or the buttons didn’t seem quite responsive but it just did not feel right to me. Give it a try, you may have better luck than me. The Impossible Avatar Getaway costs 80 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here.

World War ToonWorld War Toon is a strategy game where you must control an army to take over zones on the world by defeating your opponents. I was struggling a little to play this within the trial time limit as I wanted to check it out as much as possible. I found the enemies hard to defeat, even when evenly matched they would come out victorious. Strategy gamers should at least check this one out as the game does look to be well made game. World War Toon costs 240 :MSPoints: and more information can be found here and a trailer can be found below.

Titles that have received either a software update or price change are Kuchibi, Golden Tangram, Kodu Game Lab, Creed Arena, Rotor’scope, Duel: The Art of Combat and Pilot Test.
